Our Spring Concerts Are Here!

Although the weather keeps saying "winter", it really is spring.  Our students have been working very hard to prepare their spring concerts.  Please join us!  You will enjoy them.

The Kindergarten-1st Grade Spring Concert is Thursday, April 19.  The theme is "Down On Grandpa's Farm".  Students will open with "Down On Grandpa's Farm", followed by other songs about the animals on Grandpa's farm...and some of those animals are strange!  The concert will be in the Middle School Theater.  Students should report at 6:40 p.m.  The concert begins at 7:00 p.m.  There are no costumes for this concert.  Students should dress comfortably.

The Grade 2-3 Spring Concert is on Tuesday, April 24.  This will also be in the Middle School Theater.  Students should report at 6:40 p.m.; the concert begins at 7:00 p.m.  This concert is called "Home On The Range".  The story line:  An independent film crew has arrived in Mobridge.  They are filming the next big hit!  The audience will watch as the movie's chorus is filming scenes for the movie.  The film crew's director and assistant director keep the action moving...until some clueless cowboys start to enter the scene.
The chorus and film crew grips can choose to dress: as a cowboy/cowgirl (without hats), in traditional Native American attire, or as they would for any other concert.  The director and assistant director will dress in character.  And the cowboys will be dressed as cowboys (with hats and bandanas, if possible).
We are looking for 6 stick horses for our cowboys to ride.  If you have one, please bring it to  school.  I will mark them and get them back to you after the concert.  Thank you in advance!

Homecoming is just around the corner - September 25-29Go, Tigers!
The K-3 general music classes are learning the school song so that we can cheer on our Tigers.  Here are the lyrics to our school song.  They are set to the tune "On, Wisconsin"

Mobridge-Pollock School Song

Onward, Mobridge!  Onward, Pollock!
Yes, you bet we're here.
And we've got the goods with us, nothing do we fear.
Rah!  Rah!  Rah!

Onward, Mobridge!  Onward, Pollock!
We are here to win.
So fight, Tigers, fight and we will win this game!

M-O-B-R-I-D-G-E   P-O-L-L-O-C-K!

Kindergarten students are learning how to make and be good friends.  We are learning to use our singing voices and to match pitch.  We have been focusing on Beat, learning to hear the beat and to move to the beat.

First graders are learning the difference between Beat and Rhythm.  We are singing and moving to the beat and to the rhythm.  We learned that music can have different Tempos (speeds), and that it can have different Dynamics (volumes of sound).  We also like silly songs and songs that tell stories.  Many of our songs focus on rhyming words.

Second graders are learning to use their singing voices and match pitch.  We use Solfage, Rhythm Syllables and Pitch Names to read music!  So far we have focused on Middle C through F.  Not only can we sight sing, we can also play melodies on Boomwhackers.  We also reviewed Tempos and Dynamics.

In Third Grade, we are learning to read more difficult music.  After reviewing Tempos and Dynamics, we studied Meters in 4 and in 3.  We use Solfage and Call & Response songs to learn to sing in tune.  We read rhythms with quarter notes and rests, eighth notes, half notes and rests. We have focused on the pitches of Middle C through G so far.  We are learning to analyze, read and play music on Boomwhackers.

August 2017

Welcome back to school!  Students come back to school next week.  I am excited to meet many of you Monday night at the Open House.  I will be at Freeman Davis School from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Classes begin on Tuesday, August 22.  General music classes will begin the first day.  Band students will be signing up for lesson times with Miss Scheidt in class.  We will be scheduling band lessons and start teaching them shortly.

If you have questions or concerns during the school year, do not hesitate to contact me.  I travel between buildings, so email is probably the easiest way for you to reach me quickly.  My school email address is Nancy.McClellan@k12.sd.us.  You can also call the school, at 845-9200.  I teach on Tuesdays-Wednesdays-Thursdays.  I will be at Freeman Davis in the mornings and at the Upper Elementary in the afternoons.

Here's to a great year for the Tigers!
